Obituary

Melba Faye Gibbins
Of
Cement, Oklahoma

Was born July 12, 1944 in Wellington, TX to Huston Columbus and Rosa Agnes (Chambers) Carter. She passed away at her home in Cement, OK on July 29, 2017 at the age of 73.

In 1962, Melba met Vancie Lee Gibbins. When Vancie first saw Melba, he knew he was going to ask her to marry him. They were married on February 5, 1963 in Rosedale, CA. Later that year in December, their daughter Joy was born. While Melba stayed home taking care of their family for a few years, she later went to work for the U.S. Post Office as a Postal Carrier. In 1973 their second daughter, Diana Lee, was born and Melba stayed home raising their daughters. Melba was always actively involved with her daughters’ education. Melba volunteered and held board positions with the local PTA organizations.
In 1978 they moved to Oklahoma, Vancie worked in the oilfield until he retired and Melba went to work at Ft. Sill as a Transportation Counselor where she primarily worked until her retirement last year.

Melba was fond of spoiling her grandsons, who she would tell everyone, they were her heart. Melba loved the Oklahoma outdoors fishing and gardening with her husband and grandsons. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and doing ceramics with her daughters and sisters. Uncle Vancie, Joy and Lee, I wish I could be there for you all. I love you. I will forever keep my memories of Aunt Melba, her laugh... oh how she would laugh (Probably at us kids being silly) I'll always hold close to my heart that summer I practically lived with you all...the trip to Oklahoma... All of the kindness and help you all provided for Eva's wedding.
In my heart and mind I can see her laughing, and smiling. I'll miss you.
I love you my family, I wish I was closer.

I loved Aunt Melba very much. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you and we are here for you if you need anything. Please take comfort that she is no longer in pain and is now up in heaven with the rest of the family that preceded her. I imagine her getting a big hug from grandma and grandpa, dad, Uncle Milton, and Emily as soon as she arrived.

Please let us know if there is anything at all that we can do for any of you.
With sympathy and love,
