Obituary

Murry Doyle Burum, 86, passed away on July 6, 2017, in Oklahoma City. He was born in Alma, Oklahoma, on May 2, 1931, to Warren Paschal “WP” and Floy Lemuel (Newman) Burum.

Family visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, July 10, at 11:00 A.M. at New Hope Baptist Church West with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

Murry graduated from Duncan High School in 1949 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts and Education from Cameron University in 1980. He married Betty Jean Lowe on November 23, 1948. They raised two children, David and Darrell. He worked for Halliburton for 23 years as a welder. In 1971, he began teaching at the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton as a welding instructor. In 1981 he came to Red River Technology Center to teach welding. He retired from RRTC in 1991.

Murry enjoyed going fishing, playing dominoes several times a week and going to church. He was always out tinkering around in his shop building on various projects and visiting with anyone who stopped by to see what he was up to.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don Burum; and his sister, Mary Katherine Percival.

Murry is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; his children, David Burum and spouse, Carolyn Howard, of Denver, Colorado, and Darrell and spouse Mary Burum of Huntsville, Texas; five grandchildren, Devron and Lauren Burum, Chad Burum and fiancé, Marissa, Tori and Aaron Schmalz, Brandon and Christi Burum, and Vance and Tonya Burum; ten grandchildren, Wylie Duncan, Lydia Duncan, Isaak Burum, Eli Burum, Evelyn Grace Schmalz, Allee Burum, Sidney Burum, Blaise Burum, Krystian Burum and Austin Burum; his sister, Carolyn and Val Dixon; his sister-in-law, Barbara Burum; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Love.

Pallbearers are Keith Theesen, Clarence Fortney, John Cooksey, Chuck Mullen, Brandon Burum, and Vance Burum. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Byford, Paul Walker, Howard Brawdy, Roger Horn, and Jerry Lowe.
