Anita Irene (Nettles) Ferguson

Anita Irene Ferguson, 94, was born September 10, 1925, in Laverne, Oklahoma to Monroe and Carol Isolona (Gaultney) Nettles. She passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, with her loving children by her side.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 8, from 5-7 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Dutton officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Anita attended Costa Mesa High School. She married the love of her life, Gerold Lee Ferguson, on November 23, 1945, in Buffalo, Oklahoma. To this union, eight children - Carol, Jeanette, Johnny, Cheryl, Ronald, Georgia, Gerold II and Wanda - were born.

She was employed as a Certified Medical Assistant at B&B Nursing Home until her retirement. She lovingly made quilts by hand for her whole family. Anita, who was known as Mema, would not drive and used bribery to get her grandchildren to chauffeur her where she needed to go. Her favorite restaurant was KFC. She never met a stranger and loved everyone she met.

Anita is survived by her children: Carol Berry, Jeanette Johnson, Johnny and Shirley Ferguson, Cheryl Little, Ronald and Carol Sue Ferguson, Georgia and Jim Popp, Gerold Ferguson II, Wanda and James Brown; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; brothers: Robert Nettles, Armand Nettles; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerold; parents; brothers, Maurice Nettles, James Nettles; and son-in-law, Andy Berry.

Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Lee Berry Jr., Richard Mundell, Jacob Brown, Cody Berry, Trina Kunkler and Jessica Popp.
