Barbara Ann Bailey Armitstead
Barbara Armitstead was born on November 11, 1936, and passed on to heaven on January 12, 2018, after a long illness.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 17, at 10:00 AM at Duncan Cemetery with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Janice Sharp and Rev. Kathy Gibson officiating. Family visitation at Whitt Funeral Home is scheduled Tuesday, January 16, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Funeral arrangements were made with Whitt Funeral Home.
Barbara began her education in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 1954. She started working in the Security National Bank where she held various positions including Director of Marketing. Her career spanned over a 25 year period. Barbara was known and respected for her high work ethics which included dedication, loyalty and commitment. Although she enjoyed her work at the bank, she was most dedicated to home and family. She was known for her ability to include everyone at every family gathering. Barbara was a gourmet cook and a master gardener. Her sense of hospitality from the heart will be greatly missed.
Barbara was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees and offices which included a six year term as Delegate to the Annual Conference of the Oklahoma United Methodist church, a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School class and was a regular greeter on Sunday morning with Bill. She was a member of the Hestian Study Club where she served in several offices. Barbara enjoyed the monthly luncheons for the Class of 54, a group of graduates that love and support each other after all these years.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ausbin O. Bailey and Jaunita Sitz Bailey and a nephew, Bradford Todd Bailey.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Armitstead of the home, brothers Robert O. Bailey and Pat Holloway Dixon and Jerry Bailey and wife Winifred of Duncan. Nieces and nephews include Robert A. Bailey and wife Connie of Duncan, Jim Bailey of Duncan, Becky Thomison and husband David of Tulsa, OK, Shannon Rose of Arlington, Texas, Jerry Dennis and wife Betty of Myrtle Creek, OR, Patricia Potter, of Roseburg, OR, Kim Pendry and husband Bob of Granbury, Texas, Lisa Briggs of Granbury, Texas, Eric Bailey of Dallas, Texas, Shelly Rose of Arlington, Texas and 13 great nieces and nephews and 7 great greats, along with a multitude of friends.
Pallbearers include Robert A. Bailey, Jim Bailey, Jessie Bailey, Saied Bailey, McKay Bailey.
Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.
