Charles Delbert Dennington was born August 2, 1933, in Hobart Oklahoma to Charlie Dennington and Leona (Smith) Flynn. He passed away at the age of 86 on December 9, 2019, at his home near Apache.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, December 19, at 2:00 P.M. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. The Stephens County Honor Guard will present military honors. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.
Charlie was a 1952 graduate of Apache High School. In December of 1953 he joined the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He received a Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the ROK Presidential Unit Citation. He retired as a Staff Sergeant while stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas in 1975 with 22 years of service to the United States.
He loved to go fishing with his friends. Charlie also enjoyed rebuilding cars. He enjoyed being with his family and grandkids. He loved very much to listen to his music and relax, and in the last several years, all of his traveling and adventures with his best friend, Al.
Charlie is survived by his son, Derwin and wife Delãna Dennington; brother, Herman Dennington, grandchildren: Brandy and husband Seth Roberts, Brandon Dennington, Cody Dennington; great grandchildren: Preston, Dakota, Zackary, Landon, and Brailey Roberts, and Harley Dennington; many nieces and nephews; and his very special friends, Al Freeman and David Whitlock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dennington; mother, Leona Flynn; brothers: Howard Dennington and Donald Dennington; and sister, Evelyn Thompson.
