Florence Bridwell Obituary
Florence Charlotte (Hambrick) Bridwell peacefully went to Heaven to be with the Lord on September 18, 2019, in Duncan at the age of 90. She was born to Jim Riley Hambrick, Sr. and Lily Mable (Bortness) Hambrick on November 12, 1928, in Sheridan, OK.
In 1946 Florence married Harold Jeffries. They had two sons, Stephen Hal Jeffries and Charles (Chuck) Lynn Jeffries.
A Celebration of the Life of Florence will be held on September 21, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at Whitt Funeral Home, Duncan, with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating, followed by burial at Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Florence worked for 21 years at Ridley Packing Company, originally slicing bacon and later as secretarial staff. She met Raymond T. Garland while working at Ridley’s and they married in 1967 until a house fire they were both in claimed his life in 1979. Many fond memories were shared by friends and loved ones at their home “pickin’ and grinnin’” on Saturday evenings.
Florence was an excellent seamstress. She loved making clothes for her granddaughter, Cheryle, and countless friends and relatives. Another favorite past time was fishing and she loved reading.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Stephen Hal, Charles Lynn; infant grandson, Bobby Lynn Jeffries; brothers, Edward W. Hambrick, Alfred Ray Hambrick, Jim Riley Hambrick, Jr.; sister, Omie Pearl Bridgeman. Florence is survived by granddaughter, Cheryle Jean Stapelfeldt and husband Bill of Houston, TX; sister, Laila Mable Pilgrim; daughter-in-law, Vickie Jeffries; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
During Florence’s residency at Elk Crossing she touched many lives of the caregivers and all who knew her. A special thank you is extended to Bethany and Shaston and the many caregivers for the hours of personal care and love given to Flo.
