Florence Kathern Sparkman Clopton was born October 10, 1931, in rural Comanche County to Clarence E. "Bud" and Pearlie Mae Kelton Sparkman. She passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019, in Duncan.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, at 2:00PM at Letitia Cemetery near Lawton. The service will be officiated by Ryan Sims and assisted by Arden Smith. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Florence attended Lawton schools. She married George William Clopton on April 24, 1948, in Henrietta, Texas. Florence was employed as a men's apparel seamstress. She enjoyed reading mysteries. She served as the Children's Department Director at the Velma Methodist Church and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for 41 years. She enjoyed going to visit family members and loved to watch her kids play in school athletics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Pearlie Mae Sparkman; brothers, Buster and James Sparkman; and an infant sister.
Florence is survived by her husband of 70 years, George; four children, Robert and wife Nancy Clopton of Edmond, Eva Dulworth and companion Steve Preslumsky of Norman, Lyndol and wife Lynn Clopton of Lake Charles, LA, and Cherri and husband Chris Lambert of Cache; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; and sister, Betty and husband LB Caldwell of Lawton.
Memorial contributions can be made in Florence's name to the Stephens County Humane Society, 714 Martin Luther King Avenue, Duncan, OK 73533.
