Fredrick Smith Obituary
Fredrick Leroy Smith Jr. was born on August 29, 1934, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Hazel Elizabeth (Price) and Fredrick Leroy Smith Sr. He made his journey to Heaven on Thursday, December 19, 2019, with his loving family by his side. He was 85.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 27, at 10:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Fred was a 1952 graduate of Glendo, Wyoming High School. He earned his Associate’s of Science in Carpentry from Casper College. He married Myrtle Hope Chase on November 11, 1955, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. To this union, 4 children - Linda, Fredrick III, Katherine and Michael - were born. Myrtle preceded him in death on November 10, 2019.
He worked in all kinds of construction, working on bridges, highways and homes. His favorite part of construction was finishing the project. He was a collector of die cast antique tractors, as well as real antique tractors. He loved old cars of any kind as long as they went fast. Fred was a Kansas City Royals baseball fan. Every chance he got he would go to garage sales. He also loved to attend church. He dearly loved his family.
Fred is survived by his children: Linda (Mark) Virant of Wheatland, Wyoming, Katherine (Carey) Shorter of Duncan, Michael Smith of Comanche; grandchildren: Lacey and (James) Bruckner, Mandy (Brett) Binning, Jeffery McGuire, Chylie Lehto, Levi Filter, Shilo Smith, Frankie Smith; great grandchildren: Rylie Bruckner, Ali Bruckner, Stetson Shorter; sister, Sandra Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle; parents; son, Fredrick Leroy Smith III; grandson, Tanner Shorter; and sister, Sally Eckert.
Serving as pallbearers will be Carey Shorter, Harold Shorter, Mark Virant, Jeff McGuire, David Johnson Jr., and Steve Earnhart. Honorary pallbearer is Michael Smith.
