George Lynn Obituary
George Lafayette Lynn was born on August 7, 1927, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to George Wildren and Mary Rhodey (Fielder) Lynn. He passed away on Sunday, August 12, at his home in Duncan at the age of 91.
Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 15, at 1:00 PM at the Whitebead Cemetery near Pauls Valley with his nephew officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
George attended Hoppings and Antioch Schools. He served his country during World War II when he was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was honorably discharged in August of 1946. In 1952 George joined the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in January of 1960. He then served in the Army Reserves until 1963. He married Edna Merl Ammons in 1948. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2016, after being married for 67 years.
He was the owner of George’s Ditching Service for 20 years, during which time he did work for Sunray Refinery and Southwestern Bell. Prior to this, he worked for the City of Duncan in the Water Department. After his retirement, he and Edna traveled with the Holiday Ramblers, going to different areas of the country. They spent winters in South Texas until Edna could no longer travel. He attended church at Trinity Baptist Church.
George is survived by his brother, Bobby and wife Pat Lynn of Duncan; nephews, Robert and wife Anita Lynn and Ricky Black; and great nephew, Cody Black.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; 4 infant children; parents, George and Mary Lynn; and sister, Dessie Black.
