Harold Jay "Harry" Cook passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was born January 5, 1936, in Marlow, to Franklin Vance and Quanah Beatrice Cook.
Viewing is scheduled for Sunday, August 18, from 1:00-5:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 19, at 10:00 A.M. at the Assumption with Father Peter Jandaczek officiating. Interment will follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Harry was a 1954 Marlow High School graduate. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years which included the Vietnam War era. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Nation Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the SSBN Deterrent Patrol Insignia. He married the love of his life, Stella Joan "Joanie" Dymerfai, on December 27, 1969, in La Mesa, California. He was employed as a nuclear engineer working for various government contractors across the United States for 20 years.
He enjoyed farming and planting flowers. He raised goats and Longhorn cattle. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races with his wife. If you didn’t find him with Joanie, you would find him in his man-cave.
Harry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joanie; son, David Cook and wife Denise of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Philip Cook and wife Hannah of Wichita, Kansas and Matthew Cook and wife Emily of Blairsburg, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren, James Wayne and William Keller Cook ; brother, Kenneth Ray Cook and wife Doris of Duncan; sister, Katheriny Milburn of Marlow; nephews, Kent Cook and Vance Patton; Godchildren, Steve and Dawn Landry of Duncan and Bailee Canada; nieces, Denise Cook, Darla Wiser, Francis and Lonnie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janie Patton.
