Ilamae (Ackley) Hendrix

Ilamae Hendrix passed away peacefully on November 6, 2019, at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple in Cyril, OK, officiated by her nephew, Kip Ackley. Burial will immediately follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, OK under the direction of Cyril Funeral Home.
Ilamae Vernette Hendrix was born in Chickasha, OK on December 24, 1928, to Donald and Edna (Deason) Ackley. The family moved to Cyril, OK where she attended school with her brother, Acel Ackley. As a teenager during WWII, she knitted sweaters and wrote letters to servicemen overseas including one special serviceman, Dwain Davis, whom she would marry and have 3 children. In her early years, she enjoyed her bowling league, the Pony Pasture Archery Club, camping and collecting antiques, which became a lifelong passion. She was also very talented at crocheting and continued it well into her 80’s. She taught ceramic classes in her own ceramic shop for several years. She was a church pianist at the Cyril Pentecostal Church and was very involved with her children in church and school activities. Ilamae worked at the Cyril State Bank for over 30 years. In 1979, Ilamae married J.W. Hendrix. They enjoyed their time together running Jay’s Pit BBQ in Cyril, living on Lake Eufaula, fishing, going to garage sales and traveling until he passed away in 2014. Ilamae then moved to be near her son, Don, in Texas, living independently until a month before her 90th birthday. While attending church there, she reaffirmed her faith and was baptized in May 2019. She then moved to Oklahoma with her daughter where she spent her last few months laughing with and enjoying her great-grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Harp of Perkins, OK; son, LaVoyd Davis and wife Linnie of Cyril, OK; daughter-in-law, Diane Davis of Henderson, TX; granddaughter, Samantha Hubbard and husband Jordan of Perkins, OK; grandson, Dustin Davis of Longview, TX; stepgrandson, Shane Hooten and wife Patricia of Kilgore, TX; great-grandsons, Benjamin and Jameson Hubbard of Perkins, OK; stepgreat-grandchildren, Blake and Sarah Hooten of Kilgore, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Hendrix; brother, Acel Ackley; son, Don Davis; and son-in-law, Sam Harp.
