Jerry Dale Blackburn, 85, a life-long resident of Marlow, Oklahoma passed away at Wilkins Nursing Center on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Jerry was born in Marlow on June 27, 1933, to Dwight and May Blackburn. He attended school in Marlow and at Oklahoma State University (where he had to hitchhike his way to Stillwater). He served in the U.S. Army and went on to work for the United States Postal Service.
Jerry married Oleta Henderson on November 2, 1956, in Marlow. Together they had three children, Randy, Julie, and Joni. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on his farm. He had a special passion for burning brush or anything else. Jerry was a member at New Hope Baptist West in Duncan.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta; son, Randy Blackburn and wife Brenda of Hollandale, Mississippi; daughters, Julie Leippe and husband Karl, and Joni Blackburn of Marlow; grandchildren, Austin Leippe of Marlow, Taylor Leippe of Oklahoma City, and Holly Claire Millican of Chicago, Illinois; brothers, William Don Blackburn and wife Wilma of Roanoke, Virginia, Jimmy Blackburn and wife Ginger of Marlow, and Danny Blackburn and wife Marilyn of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and sister, Linda Scott and husband Larry of Duncan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry also shared a special bond with his brother and sisters-in-law, Wanda Floyd of Duncan and Carol and Marcena Henderson of Mead, Oklahoma.
The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff of Wilkins Nursing Center for their loving care of Jerry. Jerry had a deep faith and love for the Lord, and we are comforted in the fact that he is in heaven rejoicing!
Per Jerry's request, there will be no funeral services, but we invite you to join us for visitation on Friday, May 10, from 5 - 7 PM at Whitt Funeral Home in Duncan. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
