Jerry Osvell Rowell, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away on December 31, 2017, at the age of 74 in Benson, Arizona. He was born on February 25, 1943 to Greene Osvell and Viola Marie (Scifres) Rowell in Marlow.
Family visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 7, from 1:30-3:30 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, at 1:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Jerry attended school at Bray through the 8th grade; he then transferred to Duncan where he graduated in 1961. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business, with a minor in Mathematics, from Cameron University in Lawton.
He married Sammie Gail McBride on November 11, 1965, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan. They had two sons, Jeff and Jason. Jeff preceded him in death in 2009.
Jerry was employed by Halliburton and retired after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Hi-Lifters Club, the oldest car club in the United States. Jerry enjoyed building racecars and going to races around the state. He was a woodworking craftsman who built furniture. He travelled to Yuma, Arizona to reunite with his friends who shared a similar interest-“Snow Birds” RVing. Jerry was also an avid pool player. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church West.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gail; his son, Jason and wife Julie Rowell of OKC; his daughter-in-law, Lenora Rowell of Duncan; his granddaughter, Katherine Gail Rowell; his sisters, Joyce Sehested of Asheville, NC, and Wilma Sparks of Norman; and his mother-in-law, Ida McBride.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeff Rowell; his sister, June Rowell; and his father-in-law, C.S. McBride.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dick Fennel, Larry Wilson, Phil O’Neal, Bill Loughridge, Lloyd Scifres, and Bill High. Honorary pallbearer will be Ronnie Mayberry.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
