John Michael Dill was born on January 22, 1953, in Higgins, Texas, to Jack Lawrence and Phyllis Jean Dill. He passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, in Duncan.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Military honors will be provided by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral.
John graduated from Caney High School in Caney, Kansas. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, enlisting on August 8, 1981. He made a career of the Army, finally retiring from the Army National Guard on January 21, 2013, after 23 years of faithful service. He served during the Vietnam War and received several medals including the Vietnam Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Since his retirement, he has developed a love for fishing and hunting. John also liked to operate remote drones and train sets, and had developed an interest in old coins.
Survivors include his three sons, Steven McElroy, Darin Turner, and Clinton McElroy; twelve grandchildren; one sister, Michael and husband Keith Chasteen; four brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Phyllis Dill.
