Kenneth Gale Shafer was born April 22, 1926, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Truman Rixey Shafer and Fannie Ellen McDaniel. He passed away peacefully on September 22, 2019, at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.
He lived in Cache until 1927 and moved to Apache. He graduated in 1944 from Apache High School. In 1946 he joined the Army and served time in Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Korea, and Fort Sill. He married Marlene Sims in March of 1950. They had 3 children, Susan Elaine, Jerry Wayne, and Wade Alan. Kenneth worked at Malone Ford in Apache, and Civil Service at Fort Sill until he retired. He spent time doing carpentry for his family and others, farming raising cattle and horses. He and Marlene enjoyed traveling across the U.S. to the east and west coasts. In later years he enjoyed woodworking, giving the items to family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene Shafer; brothers: Harold Shafer, Ned Shafer; and sisters: Ruby Orf, Odessa Marlow, Betty Jenkins.
Kenneth is survived by his children: Susan Howe and husband Mark of Virginia, Jerry Shafer and wife Patricia of VA, Wade Shafer and wife Jennifer of OK; 8 grandchildren: Eric Hansley of VA, David Hansley of VA, Andrea Schuman and husband Karl of TX, Kori Eichhron and husband Tim of TX, Meredith Truss and husband Tim of MD, Sarah Grisso and husband Andrew of MD, Derek Shafer of OK, and Robbie Shafer of OK.
