Kenneth Roy Shaw, 89, died peacefully in Duncan, Oklahoma on December 27, 2017.
A funeral is scheduled for December 29, 2017 at the Eastside church of Christ at 1 p.m. Ron Stough will officiate the ceremony.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Josephine; children, Kenneth Roy Shaw, Jr., and Linda Shaw Darling, granddaughter Carissa Cassin and husband Ryan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was born on May 6, 1928, the seventh of thirteen children, to William Abel Shaw and Udie Acrey Shaw in Marlow, Oklahoma. He attended Oak Grove Country School and Marlow Public High School, and served as a Military Policeman during the Army of Occupation of Japan.
On September 24, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Josephine Marie Hanks — a loving union that would last 67 years. After moving to Page, Arizona, he began work as a heavy equipment operator and then a crane operator working on the Glen Canyon Dam. These were just the first in a series of notable bridges, buildings, and other important construction projects that would leave a legacy of infrastructure millions use to this day. Work would take him and his family to California, before returning them to their roots in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Whether as a son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, Uncle Kenny, friend, or volunteer, Kenneth lived his life for others, always putting their needs above his own. He was blessed with a natural understanding of all things mechanical. Knowing this, friends and family often sought his advice. He was happiest when working on the tractor, volunteering, or simply fixing anything that needed fixing. He also enjoyed traveling in the RV, as well as bus trips and lunches with the Chickasaw seniors.
Kenneth will be remembered as a man of faith, with absolute devotion to his wife, family and friends. He positively shaped the lives of everyone around him, and routinely went the extra mile to provide for his family.
Kenneth exemplified what it meant to be a member of the “Greatest Generation.” For a man who witnessed so much change during his time on earth, his character and honesty were a rock those around him came to rely on.
Kenneth was an active and dedicated member of the church of Christ, and often volunteered at the Eastside congregation in Duncan.
