He is survived by his wife, Marion, and his pride and joy, son Scott, who was a standout baseball player at Duncan High School. Also surviving are his nephews, Chris Cary and wife Tanya and their daughter of Altus, Tim Rogers and his wife Teresa and their children of Hollywood, SC, and Keith Knight and his wife Kim and their children of Perry. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherri and Alvin Knight of Elk City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lu Rogers and brother-in-law Ken; brothers, Ray Cary and Terry Cary; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. Eli Cary; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was a member of Saint Paul’s Methodist Church where he served as President of the Methodist Men and was on the Board of Trustees. While Scott was in elementary school, Pee Wee served as president of the PTA.

Pee Wee was always involved in his school activities, especially sports, and he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was voted “most witty” by his classmates his senior year. After graduation he played semi-pro football for the Altus YellowJackets under former Duncan High School coach, Earl Presley, where he jokingly said they got the socks beaten off them most of the time.

He served 9 years in the Oklahoma National Guard, enlisting his senior year at the urging of most of his friends, who also enlisted, and they were all sent to summer camp at Fort Chaffee, AR, and Fort Polk, LA, during their time in the guards. He attended the NCO Academy at Fort Hood, TX, and became a non-commissioned officer reaching the rank of Master Sargent.

He began his lifelong road in photography by working at the Click Studio and Camera Shop in Altus. He met and married his wife, Marion, and they moved to Duncan where he began working for The Duncan Banner.

During his time at The Banner, he served as president of the Oklahoma News Photographers Association and the Oklahoma Press Association: Photography Division. He made presentations to Oklahoma University, Oklahoma State University, and Cameron University journalism classes and many of the area high schools. Pee Wee won two first place awards at the Oklahoma Press Association (OPA) contest, one in the general news and the other in sports feature. He also received honorable mention in the feature category at the same time. Fifty-five photographers entered with more than 2,000 photos in eight categories.

He received numerous personal honors for his work at The Banner and was recognized by the Duncan High School Pitchfork newspaper and by the class of 1975 for his help in putting together their school annual with photos he had made. Pee Wee never missed a Duncan Demons home football game. He was inducted into the Duncan High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was an honorary member of the Stephens County 4-H and the Family Community Educators and had judged numerous county photo contests. He also had served as president of the Southwest Oklahoma Amateur Baseball Division.

He was a photography instructor for the evening adult classes at Red River Area Vo-Tech for several years.

He was later employed as a photographer by Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. and traveled extensively with the company on assignments taking him to several states in the U.S. and also some travel to Canada.

He became the director of the Stephens County Museum, where he co-authored a book entitled Images of America – Duncan and Stephens County, Oklahoma. He also aided in the collection of historical data for many books, most notable – Ron Howard’s biography, which was featured on the TV program, A&E Biographies and book titled From Mayberry to the Moon. While at the museum, he was contacted by Jeffrey L. Rodengen, who is the author of The Legend of Halliburton book, and provided historical information.

Marion and Scott would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Chris Herndon, Dr. Terry Schreiner, and Dr. Donald Rice and their staffs for taking such good care of Pee Wee’s physical, dental and visual needs. Also, our heartfelt thanks goes to the Chisholm Trail Hospice group and caregiver, Lisa, for your compassion, kindness, and understanding.
