Rowena Foster Obituary

Rowena Faye Howard Foster was born on April 19, 1932, to Joseph C. Howard and Faye O. Taylor Howard in Marlow, Oklahoma. She passed away on April 17, 2019, at her home in Duncan.
Family visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, from 6:30-8:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 22, at 10:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Robbins officiating, assisted by Bro. Shawn Bitner. Interment will follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Rowena was a truly dedicated, faithful Christian lady who loved the Lord and showed this by example and expression. She was always a smiling and cheerful person with so much grace. She was willing to be helper to those in need or a listening ear to family and friends. Her strong faith showed through to all who knew her. She was an active member at Lakeside Baptist Church who spent many years a loving teacher in the nursery and later as a Sunday School teacher to Senior Adult Women. She was always ready to take food to a dinner or a family in need. She loved to cook and bake for others.
She married Matt Foster on December 8, 1951 and the love they shared for 67 years for each other and extended family and friends was a blessing to all who knew and admired them and their wonderful faith.
They had one son born to them on October 26, 1956 – Mickey – who was a devoted and dearly loved blessing. Sadly, Mickey passed away on his 18th birthday in 1974.
Rowena worked at First National Bank for 15 years. She later worked as a secretary for Halliburton Services, retiring in 1991 after 26 years.
After retirement Matt and Rowena spent many years and miles traveling in the United States and took a missionary trip to London. They enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new friends. They attended many bluegrass festivals and spent several winters in South Texas. They enjoyed sharing their love of music at nursing homes and senior citizen centers.
Rowena is survived by her husband, Matt; sister-in-law, Wanda Howard; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mickey; 3 brothers, Joe, Jerry and Jimmy Howard, and 2 sisters, Peggy Anderson and Linda Howard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lynn Snow, Cliff Snow, Jim Ray Foster, Howard Pilgrim, Robbie Anderson, and Billy Joe Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Foster, Guy Foster, Brian Howard, Greg Justus, Greg Kirby, Neal Foster, Greg Tucker, Kenny Johnson, Richard Lynn Brooks, Richard Brooks, F.L. Estes, James Carman, and Paul Burden.
