Russell Presgrove Obituary

Russell Lee “Russ” Presgrove passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at his home with his loved ones by his side.
A private service will be scheduled at a later time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.whittfh.com.
Russ was born in Oklahoma City on June 24, 1943, to G.W. and Vyola (Emmons) Presgrove. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1962. He served in the National Guard after graduation.
He boxed with Golden Gloves Boxing from 1962-63 and boxed while in boot camp. He coached many kids in Golden Gloves from 1964-1972, making many lifelong friends during his coaching time.
He was employed at Halliburton for 33 years, from 1966-1999, retiring at the age of 56.
Russ enjoyed playing golf, lifting weights, fishing, and loved watching OU football. He liked traveling and had the opportunity to enjoy many cruises and road trips, although spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
He married the love of his life Linda Martin on September 16, 1971. They were married 37 years until her death in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his mother and father, his brother-in-law, Robert Martin and wife Ruby, in-laws Weldon and Dorothy Martin and nephew Byron Martin.
Survivors include his brothers, Larry Presgrove and wife Sharon, Michael Scott Presgrove and wife Christy; his sister, Karen Baldwin and husband Mike; sister-in-law, Mary Foster and husband Wayne; nephews, Wesley Martin and Michael Baldwin; nieces, Karen Nix, Cynthia Presgrove, Rhonda Ellington and April Nighswonger; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
Russ had a strong faith and leaned on the Lord in his daily life. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and felt blessed to have such a wonderful church family. He was thankful for all the cards he received and kept during his illness from the members and church prayer group.
Russ showed his love to serve the Lord through his own faithfulness to his church. He had a love for Sunday School, searching the deep things of God. He had a servant’s heart, assisting with the funeral dinners or wherever there was a need. He was always ready to help others and had a special calling to do so and was always the first to offer help to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone in need.
He was a great prayer warrior interceding for those in need.
He loved to hear Brother Randy Southerland preach the gospel of Grace.
When Russ dropped his robe of flesh for Heaven’s flight, his strong faith in the Lord kept all of us in awe.
Proverbs 22:1 - A good name is more desirable than great riches, to be respected is better than silver or gold. Russell Presgrove was a rich man!
