Sherry Loleta Barker was born on August 3, 1940, in Duncan to Elmore Otto and Estellene Lautrella (Harmon) Mitchell. She passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, at her home in Duncan. She was 79.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, at 2:00 P.M. at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Randy Southerland officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Sherry was a 1958 Velma-Alma graduate. She then received her Associate's degree from Draughon's Business College. On February 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, Eddie Virgil Barker, in Velma. He preceded her in death of April 18, 2019.
She was previously employed by Don Mathis as his secretary at Mathis Brothers Furniture in Oklahoma City. Her favorite pastimes were shopping and ballroom dancing. She loved to go to the YMCA for aerobics classes with some of her girlfriends while residing in Oklahoma City before moving to Duncan in 1999. She also enjoyed traveling to Colorado and Tennessee. Her family was very close to her, especially her nieces and nephews. She was particularly fond of her great great nephew, Kyzer Williams, who called her "Momma Sherry."
Sherry is survived by her sisters: Carol and husband Phil Leonard of Duncan, Harma Latham and special friend Benny Kirkpatrick of Velma; nieces and nephews: Kim and husband Russell Doughty, special niece Karla Latham, Tana Latham, Cade and wife Juanis Latham, Tonya and husband Joe Davis; great nieces and nephews: Jay Doughty, Shea Doughty, Westyn Doughty, Laycee Williams, Kaylee Cooper, Kylen Cooper, Natalie Latham, Cade Latham, Lilly Davis; great great nephews: Gavin Doughty, Caydon Evans, Kyzer Williams; and special friend, Barbara Anderson of Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; and her parents.
