Tom Costello Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Paul Costello IV was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on August 16, 1942, to Thomas Paul Costello III and Mary Juretta (Stone) Costello. He passed away in Norman on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the age of 77.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Janice Sharp officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.

Tom was a 1960 graduate of Duncan High School. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War by joining the US Navy on November 22, 1960. He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1964. On June 7, 1967, he married Bobbye Schornick, in Duncan. After serving in the Navy, he became a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Lawton. He retired after 32 years of service.

He loved God and his family. He enjoyed watching football and going fishing. Tom was a lifetime member of the VFW, first in Elgin (Post 8580) and then in Duncan.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Mary LaDawn Costello; grandchildren: Rosetta Bostic and Kevin, Maya Lee; great grandchildren: Nasir Gibson, Dyron Smith III, Dimoni Smith, Draycen Smith; brothers: Michael Karl Costello, Yogi Schornick; sisters: Paula DeLee McAlister, Mary Louise Reading, Sandra Reeder; one brother-in-law; several sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbye; son, Thomas Paul Costello V; grandson, Martin Lee; brother-in-law, Buck Schornick; and several other family members.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lucien Rose, Jim Williams, Jerry Bailey, and Gary Hart.

Special thanks are extended to Paula Reading and Joyce Schornick for all the care they provided during Tom’s illness.
