Allen Johnson Obituary
Allen Russell Johnson was born October 3, 1942, in Canyon, Texas to Charles Russell and Virginia (Talley) Johnson. Allen passed from this life Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at his home in Duncan, Oklahoma at the age of 77.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 3, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Dean Hall officiating. Services are under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Allen was raised in rural Duncan, attending Tucker Elementary School and graduating from Duncan High School in 1961. He was a lifetime member, joining at the age of 16, to the Duncan Highlifter Auto Club. Allen worked in retail as manager for several TG&Y stores. In the 1960’s he earned his pilot’s license and would often fly to the Texas panhandle managing these stores, at one time living in Guymon and flying to Duncan for visits. Allen was co-owner of Carl’s Convenience Store with his father-in-law, Carl Gibbs. Allen later received his realtor/broker license selling real estate and formed Johnson Rental Inc., co-owning with Ed and Betty Naff. He enjoyed refining carpentry and plumbing skills on the properties until his retirement.
Allen married Marilyn Sue Gibbs in 1962. She preceded him in death in November 2009. He later married Melinda Kimball.
Allen loved to fish; to say loved is an understatement. He lived to fish. Allen and Melinda purchased a cabin at the lake, his home away from home. They spent many happy hours fishing and feeding the deer.
Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, and a baby brother.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda, of the home; son, Russell Allen Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; step-son, Eric Wayne Fields and Memre of Marlow; step-daughter, Amy Marie Chase and Patrick of Oklahoma City; step-granddaughters, Madalyn and Emma Chase of Oklahoma City and Brynn and Elle Fields of Marlow; sister, Charlene Johnson Phelps; brothers: Gordon John Johnson and Gwen of Perry, Oklahoma and Harold Paul Johnson and Debra of Duncan; and longtime friends, Ed and Betty Naff of Duncan.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Anderson, Ed Naff, Mike Ramsey, Russell Johnson, Eric Fields, and Patrick Chase.
