Alvin Zinn Obituary

Our beloved husband, dad, granddad (PawPaw) and great-granddad, Alvin Gilmore Zinn, 91, of Duncan passed into the arms of Jesus Christ his Savior on January 5, 2021 at Country Club Care.

Alvin was born on Friday, September 13, 1929 in Sanger, CA to James William Zinn and Elva Gilmore Zinn. He moved to Duncan in 1951. He was saved at age 14 at Tenth Street Baptist Church. He served in the Army, Korean War as a CPL from 1951-1953 at Camp Rucker, AL. He was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for superior performance of duty and exemplary conduct as an Automotive Parts Specialist. He met his future bride while in the service and was married to Nellie Ruth Crocker of Elba, AL. He brought her back to Duncan in February 1953 and they have lived her for 68 years. He worked in auto parts for many years. He was a charter member of the Optimist Club of Duncan. Alvin was ordained a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in 1958. He was a charter member of Parkview Baptist Church serving as a deacon, Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Director, devotional director, music director, and sang bass in the choir. He also loved going to gospel singings. After retirement, he subbed at Red River Vo-Tech for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; one sister, Vada Prestidge Howell; step-father, Ollie Sprayberry; and son, Jimmy Alvin Zinn. Survivors include his wife, Nell Zinn of the home; daughter, Sharon Hobson and husband Joe; son, Kevin Zinn and wife Machelle, all of Duncan; 6 grandchildren: Jamie Morrow and husband Raymond of Duncan; Stephen Hobson and wife Amy of Blue Springs, MO; Jonathon Zinn of Bluffdale, UT; Stephanie Pendergraph and husband Aaron of Blanchard; Anthony Zinn of Duncan; Nic Zinn and wife Jazmin of Texas; and 15 great grandchildren.

He will be missed by everyone who knew him and for his optimism, his Christian faith and lifestyle that touched many lives. He had great love for his family and extended church family where he served faithfully until his health deteriorated. He loved his grandkids who lovingly called him “PawPaw”.

Family visitation will be Friday, January 8, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 9, at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Charles McConnell and Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Mr. Zinn’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Optimist Club and Mary Hedrick. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with military honors presented by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkview Baptist kitchen fund.
