Audie graduated from Marlow High School with the Class of 1950. She married Bill Careathers on March 26, 1950 in Marlow. To this union, three children – Kent, Nancy, and Sherry – were born. Bill preceded her in death on December 20, 2000.
Audie was a stay at home mom until her kids were in junior high and high school. Once she decided to work outside the home, she worked at Hanley’s and Abbie’s (women’s clothing stores in Duncan). She loved working in retail and made lifelong friends working in the retail business. She later worked at Halliburton in the Accounts Receivable Department. She and Bill rode to work together every day. They retired together in 1987.
She loved going on cruises and dancing with Bill. Traveling with their friends and family was always special. Audie was a master seamstress; she was so creative and enjoyed making clothes for her girls. Having her children and grandchildren around her was very important. She loved having all her family visit her around the holidays and loved cooking meals for them.
Audie is survived by her children: Kent and wife Debbie Careathers of Duncan; Nancy Headrick of Fort Worth; Sherry and husband Al Martin of Edmond; grandchildren: Shane and wife Alicia Careathers; Julie and husband Charlie Byrd; Michael and wife Candice Headrick; Matthew Labyer; great grandchildren: Rebekah and spouse Amber Dunn; Brandon and wife Desiree Careathers; Nicole Byrd; Wes Byrd; Lillian Headrick; Billy Headrick; great great grandchildren: Rosie, Scarlet, Braedon, Dax, and Ellinor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother Audie Crotts, father Leonard Shadden, stepfather Alva Crotts; husband Bill Careathers; son-in-law Roger Headrick; and great grandson Clinton Careathers.
