Barbara Jean Hire

Barbara Jean Hire was born September 23, 1931 in Ojai, California to Nolan Taylor and Gracie Irene (Johns) Higginbotham. She passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at her home in Duncan with her family at her side. She was 90.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, June 2, at 3:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Southerland, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church West, officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rick Armstrong, Frankie Herndon, Tom Madden, Clark Southard, Fred Webb, Rusty Hire, and Chris Frasher. Barbara married Roy W. Hire, Jr. on September 23, 1947 in Duncan. Their family was completed with the addition of four children – Connie, Gerry, Judy and Ronald. She loved doing volunteer work and had worked 20 years for the Toy Shop and more recently for Christians Concerned. Her family was her greatest love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Hire; two infant brothers; three sisters: Edna Mae, Laura Ellen, June A.; son-in-law, Keith Roebuck; daughter-in-law, Donna Hire; and grandson-in-law, Craig Webb.

Barbara is survived by her children: Connie Roebuck of Duncan, Gerry Hire of Duncan, Judy and Rick Armstrong of Lone Grove, Ronald and Laurie Hire of Duncan; grandchildren: Trina and Clark Southard, Jamie and Fred Webb, Shelly Webb, Rusty Hire, Chris and Jimi Frasher, Christal Baker, Brandi Hire, Jessica Lindel; great grandchildren: Rachelle Barteau, Hayden Webb, Trevor Madden, Reid Webb, Cade Webb, Cale Webb, Callie Webb, Caylin Webb, Nathan Frasher, Austin Baker, Jaylen Hire; great-great grandchildren: Case Webb, Cole Webb, Avery Baker; and her lifelong friend, Margo Webb of Duncan.
