After graduating from Apache High School in 1973, Barbara married the love of her life, Kevin McCray on March 15, 1974. To this union, were born two sons: Waylon and Chance. Barbara was an active member of her community and was able to meet and talk to many people while serving as the secretary for the Apache Rattlesnake Association, working at Shamrock Bank, Apache Meat Processing Plant, and the Co-op. She never met a stranger and loved to take care of those around her.
Barbara gave selflessly, listened wholeheartedly, and loved unconditionally. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, nana, and friend. She found joy in capturing the moment through pictures and videos, cooking for others, collecting dolls, celebrating Christmas, wearing flip flops, feeding turtles and racoons outside her back door, and visiting with friends and family. Barbara enjoyed traveling, taking trips and cruises to Alaska, Florida, and her favorite, Port Aransas, Texas. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren…and whoever is reading this, she loved you too.
She is preceded in death by her father, Alvin, and her mother and step-father, Virginia “Ginger” and Cecil Burns; mother-in-law, Willie McCray; brothers-in-law: Henry and Timmy McCray; aunt and uncle, Joe and Mary Jenkins; and nephew, Colby McKeown.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Kevin; children: Waylon McCray and wife Jessi and their children: Micah and wife RaeLee, Keegan and husband Cullin, Nic, Rian, Brandon, Zach, Jace, and Adi; Chance McCray and wife Darci and their children, Corben, Joe, and Oliver; two great-grandchildren: Colby and Scottie Jo McCray; nephew, Duncan McCray and significant other Lakin; brothers: Calvin Lunsford and wife Jackie, Michael Lunsford and wife Vickie; sister, Glenda Bailey and husband Mike; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she is fondly remembered as “Nana” to many others who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Apache Senior Citizen Nutrition Center, the Apache Historical Museum, or the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
