Barbara Nell Mooney

Barbara Nell Mooney Rains, age 87, passed away peacefully April 22, 2022 surrounded by friends and family. Barbara Nell “Nellie” was born February 3, 1935 in Duncan, Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry C. Rains and Lula M Rains. Barbara graduated from Duncan High School in 1953. A gifted singer in church and school, Barbara started college at William Woods to study music before returning to Duncan to marry William F. “Bill” Mooney on December 15, 1954. Upon her return to Duncan, she went to work at Halliburton where she worked for over 30 years before retiring in 1985. She loved to travel especially to Dallas in their RV to attend OU games and to the “high country” and for many years made annual treks to Colorado and New Mexico with Mom, Dad and Bill. In addition to travel she enjoyed her many friends, spoiling her nephews and singing in the choir at First Baptist Church.

Upon retirement Barbara found more time to devote to her hobbies of travel and traveling with Bill for his work. Barbara is survived by her nephews, Chris and Rusty Rains of Norman and Edmond, OK, and many great-nephews and great-nieces. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Mooney; her brother, Thomas H Rains; and parents, Henry C. and Lula Rains. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 1:30 PM at Whitt Funeral Home in Duncan, Oklahoma with a graveside service following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Rev. Randy Southerland will be officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
