Helen “Bernice” Rice Totty, Duncan, was born December 11, 1935 in Waurika, OK to Asahel and Sophia (King) Rice. She passed away January 11, 2021 in Lawton at the age of 85.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 15, at 10:30 A.M. at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. David Spangler officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Parkview Baptist Church Deacons, Cameron Norris, and Chris Totty. Burial will be in Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Bernice grew up on a farm in the Irving Community outside of Ryan, OK. She graduated from Irving High School. She married Kenneth Totty on September 2, 1955 and three children – Charles, Gordon, and Carletta – were born. She was a career homemaker, spending countless hours raising her children and finding ways to stretch the household budget by sewing (and repairing) clothes for her family and vegetable gardening and canning. She enjoyed her morning coffee on the patio watching birds. Her hobbies included arts and crafts. She enjoyed doing yard work and gardening. She spent many years collecting family genealogy and kept a journal of her life. Bernice had been a member of Parkview Baptist Church since 1964.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Totty; her parents, Asahel and Sophia Rice; and her brother, Charles Rice.
Bernice is survived by her children: Charles and wife Jan Totty of Duncan; Gordon and wife Cathie Totty of Lewisville, TX; Carletta Totty and friend Shannon McGuinness of Clinton, MO; grandchildren: Morgan Totty of Stillwater; Chris Totty of Stillwater; Rachel and husband Cameron Norris of Melissa, TX; Mackenzie Totty of Lewisville, TX; and great grandchildren: Addison Totty-Russell and Hunter Norris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkview Baptist Church kitchen fund or to Chisholm Trail Hospice.
