Betty Sue Spangler was born on July 7, 1951, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Charlie Eugene and Katherine Beulah (Alsobrook) Brown. She peacefully passed away at her home in Duncan, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 72.
Family visitation is scheduled from 2:00-4:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 17, at Whitt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 18, at Fair Baptist Church in Empire, OK, officiated by Rev. Charles McConnell. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan, OK under the compassionate direction of Whitt Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are David Johnson, Dale Turney, Gary Dryndel, Steve Greenwood, Bobby Burns, and Rodney Grooms.
Betty attended Duncan Public Schools and later worked in the transportation department at Duncan Public Schools, she was also a receptionist at Duncan Orthopedics. On May 28, 1990, Betty married Rev. David L. Spangler, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage. In addition to her professional endeavors, Betty also served as a pastor's wife, offering love and support to her husband in his ministry. In her leisure time, Betty found joy in shopping and adorning her home, but her greatest happiness came from cherished moments spent with family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Noal Brown.
Survivors include her devoted husband, David; her children: David Cerney and life partner Michelle Alves of Duncan, Kelly Welty and husband Jessie of Broken Arrow, OK, Kathy Moore and husband Jerry of Pryor, OK, and Robin Ivey and wife Cynthia Ivey of Skiatook, OK; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; her brother, Glendal Brown and wife Charlotte; sisters: Kay Brown and her baby sister Lois Tabner and husband Alvis.
