Carla Austin Obituary
Carla Sue Austin, 75, was born on January 26, 1951, and passed away on July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
On June 23, 1969, Carla married the love of her life, Mike Austin. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. She was a proud mother to four children and a cherished grandmother to seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Carla was a devoted follower of Christ, a faithful member of Apache First Pentecostal Holiness Church, and a longtime supporter and participant in world missions.
Carla retired from the Oklahoma State Health Department in 2013 after many years of dedicated service. In retirement, she devoted even more time to the things she loved most. She was an exceptionally talented quilter, creating countless hand-quilted and embroidered quilts that became treasured keepsakes for her family and friends. She found great joy in teaching others the art of quilting and embroidery, generously sharing her knowledge and encouraging creativity in those around her.
Known for her thoughtfulness, Carla never forgot a birthday. Family and friends could always count on receiving a heartfelt birthday card, a simple but meaningful reminder of how much they were loved. She also expressed her love through cooking, and nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering her children and grandchildren around the table for cherished Sunday family dinners.
Though she will be deeply missed, Carla's family finds comfort in knowing she is at home with her Lord and Savior. Her life was a beautiful example of faith, love, and devotion to her family, and her memory will continue to be cherished for generations to come.
She is survived by her children: Teresa Austin, Fresno, California, Stacy Austin and wife Yulia, San Miguel, Mexico, Sherman Austin and wife Michele, Apache, OK, Tamara Gilbreath and husband Adam, Apache, OK; grandchildren: Anastasia Henze, Jaylon Austin, Shaelyn Greyling and husband Darius, Kadree Nunn and husband Billy, Averi Gilbreath, Lucas Austin, Carter Gilbreath; great-grandchildren: Liam Henze, Brooks Nunn, Noa Greyling, and Blair Nunn; as well as many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Austin; her parents, Charley and Maudie Jump; and her sister, Dorothy Head.
A graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Apache, OK on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Serving as pallbearers are Jaylon Austin, Lucas Austin, Carter Gilbreath, Billy Nunn, Darius Greyling and Tony Austin.
