Carlton Delano Mitchell Obituary

Carlton D. Mitchell was born January 12, 1938, in Hastings, Oklahoma to Carl and Gladys (Holbrook) Mitchell on the family farm where he grew up with his 4 brothers. Carlton peacefully passed away at his home in Duncan, Oklahoma on April 16, 2025 at the age of 87.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 17, from 5-7 p.m., at Whitt Funeral Home. A funeral service is planned for 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 18, at Addington Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Waitman and Rev. Bubba Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche with Stony Mitchell, Destry Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell, Chris Branch, Jordan Boyer, Bladen Mayes, and Eli Clark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Ledford, Burl White, Andy Howington, Doug Presgrove, and Bruce Akins.

Mr. Mitchell married the love of his life, Opal Karen Waitman, on November 24, 1962, and continued farming and ranching for a living. Carlton and Karen had 4 children: Chip, Karen, Tony and Rocky. Carlton loved spending time with family and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed judging, raising, and showing pigs. Carlton was a member of Addington Baptist Church and enjoyed time spent with his church family as well.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Leo, Dennis, and James Mitchell.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Karen; children: Carlton Delano "Chip" Mitchell II of Duncan, Opal Karen Boyer of Duncan, Tony Leo Mitchell and wife Anita of Comanche, and Rocky Wayne Mitchell of Duncan; grandchildren: Destry Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell, Brookelyn Lock, Amanda Branch, Jordan Boyer, Haley McCormack, Trinity Lewis, Stony Mitchell, Canyon Mitchell, Bree Mitchell, Brody Mitchell; and 17 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Aaron Mitchell and wife Bonnie of Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
