Carol Sue Sims

Carol Sue Spradling Boyd Sims was born September 29, 1936 in Duncan to Lonnie and Junia Spradling. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 89.

Graveside services are planned for 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 25, at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Ron Meador officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Whitt Funeral Home.

At an early age, Carol Sue became a Christian at the Assembly of God church in Duncan where her grandfather, Rev. William Fortenberry, was pastor and a founding member. At 15 years of age, she was the pianist for a men's quartet that sang every Sunday morning at the KRHD radio station in Duncan.

Carol Sue graduated from Duncan High School in 1954 and began working for Halliburton. In January of 1957, she married a minister, Loyle Boyd. To this union were born "four children in four years". She was a mother who cherished her children through every phase - toddlers, teenagers, to college. Carol Sue quit her job at Halliburton in 1957 to go into full-time ministry with her husband and moved to their first pastoral at Ninnekah, OK. Other pastorals followed at Sulphur, Oklahoma City, and Carney in Oklahoma and in Sedalia, Missouri. At each church Carol Sue was active with her piano, organ and musical abilities. She organized youth groups, musical groups, and whatever was needed for the church to move forward and for her to be able to express her dedication, musical abilities, love for people, and her love for God. She enjoyed her role in the ministry.

In 1976, Loyle and Carol Sue moved to Sedalia, Missouri and began a new church, Westside Assembly of God. After it had grown immensely, they resigned and moved to Tulsa. Although Carol Sue knew that it was "God's Will" to make the move, the family endured many difficulties. She became active in Woodlake Assembly of God Church, thankful for God's direction that had been given to her and thankful the four children were thriving and reaping the benefits of Woodlake. At the age of 53, Carol Sue became a widow. She began teaching keyboard at Woodlake which had a "School of Music" as a "side job". She was also employed in Tulsa as a paralegal for an attorney.

In 1993, she moved to Duncan, to take care of her elderly mother. She worked for an attorney in Duncan before being hired at Halliburton. In 1996, she married Geary Sims, a high school classmate who was a widower.

Carol Sue so enjoyed being with and loving on her grandchildren. Two of her granddaughters carry her name, Sue. Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. She felt so very blessed when her family would celebrate Thanksgiving with her. Even as her grandchildren became adults and had children of their own, they would return to Duncan to visit. Such cherished memories they always left. She loved "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck".

Survivors include her sons: Rev. Scott Boyd (Evajean) of Thornton, CO, Rondal Boyd (Rachida) of Tulsa, OK; daughters: Susan Sparks (Paul) of Bedford, TX, Lisa Pike of Saginaw, TX; grandchildren: Nathan (Eliza), Amanda Sue Rice (Matt), Kendra Guiter (Kelly), Noel Sparks, Jaron Sparks (Kelsey), Ashley DeVries (Derek), Alexandra Blaylock, Amberley Madison Pike, Rosalie Sue Boyd, Breanna Boyd; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brother, Harold Spradling of Oklahoma City; and sister, Lonnita Shortes (Ron) of Waxahachie, TX; step-daughters: Meedan Greenlee (Bob), Kerrie Boggs (Randy), Deena Whitmore; step-grandsons: Brandon Boggs, Josh Whitmore (Sara); and step-granddaughter, Courtney Boggs.

Carol Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Junia Spradling; brother, Bobby Spradling; sister, Lonitta McVeigh; first husband and father of her children, Loyle Boyd; and husband, Geary Sims.
