Carolyn Link Obituary

Carolyn Gay Link, 71, completed her earthly journey on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at her home in Duncan. She went to be with God, and Jesus Christ, her LORD & SAVIOR, after her husband whispered to her, when you see the light, go with Jesus and the Angels.

She was born March 10, 1949, in Denver, Colorado to Wayne and Louise (Thomas) Darnold. While her father was in the Air Force and she attended many schools, Carolyn graduated from Norman High School in 1967 and continued her studies at Oklahoma University for 2 years where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority.

She was first and foremost a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Besides a wife and mom, in the family she was known as “Grammy.” Next to the Lord, husband, family/friends, Carolyn loved Sooner football. Carolyn was also a 13-year breast cancer survivor and a proud American. She loved Neil Diamond and her favorite song was “Sweet Caroline.”

Carolyn and her husband, Tony, met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve and it was love at first sight. She and Antony "Tony" Cole Link were married on February 14, 1969, in Chickasha. From their 51-year union a family of four children and twelve grandchildren was created. On July 16, 2020, Carolyn and Tony renewed their wedding vows.

Carolyn was a substitute teacher for Duncan Public Schools; employed at the Duncan Chamber of Commerce for 5 years; and then she went to work for her husband at his law office. She enjoyed being homeroom mother while her children were in school. She loved hosting birthday parties...let’s be real any party.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays because of the connection to her Mom, Dad, and family. She enjoyed cooking, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, gardening, shopping, and visiting the ocean and hearing the ocean waves. Grammy wanted to make sure every parent and child watched Finding Nemo to learn all of life’s lessons … JUST KEEP SWIMMING, SWIMMING, SWIMMING!

She supported Break Bread Together, the First United Methodist Church, and the Hope In Action Relay for Life team. She was a part of The Sensational Six - a group of six friends that included Iris Cope, Sue Sims, Kay Bechtel, Judy Holtmyer, Jan Coon, and Carolyn. The Sensational Six spent decades together traveling, entertaining, and laughing.

Visitation is planned for Thursday, July 23, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 24, at 10:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy Gibson officiating, assisted by Rev. Rudy Freese. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Louise (Thomas) Darnold. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Tony; children: Anthony and wife Angela Link of Boca Raton, Florida; Brandon T. and wife Marty Link of Duncan; Melissa Link and Jeff King of Shawnee; Carmen Huebert of Shawnee; grandchildren: Tyler Babb, Julieth Alexandra Link, Jensen Link, Jonah Link, Jasper Link, Jantz Link, Jäger Link; Austin Link, Carson Wayne McKay, Bryson McKay, Tyler Huebert and Joseph Trey Huebert; brother, Michael and wife Donna Darnold of Edmond; niece, Stacy Floyd; and nephew David Darnold.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carolyn's grandsons: Austin, Carson, Bryson, Trey, Tyler, and Jensen. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexandra and Jonah.
