Chris Nelson Taliaferro was born November 1, 1951, in Duncan, Oklahoma to James Kenneth and Shirley (Masoner) Taliaferro. He met his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at the age of 68.
Viewing will begin on Saturday, May 16, at 9:00 A.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 17, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, May 18, at 1:30 P.M. at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Davison and Pastor Billy Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Chris was a 1969 graduate of Duncan High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was employed by Halliburton as a technician until he retired in 2015 with 36 years of service. Chris then became a school bus driver for Duncan Public Schools.
He married Gayle Jean Radford on July 1, 1972, in Kansas City, Missouri. They had two children – Craig and Michael. Chris loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending all of the family events. He enjoyed playing the guitar and used that skill when playing and singing with the Praise Group at Immanuel. Chris and Gayle made soaps and lotions to sell at craft shows and farmers markets. He loved watching the Duncan Demons, Yankees, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals.
Chris is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gayle; sons: Craig and wife Kara Taliaferro, Michael Taliaferro; grandchildren: Devon Taliaferro, Drew Taliaferro, Daxton Taliaferro, Avery Taliaferro, Kinley Taliaferro; father, Kenneth Taliaferro; sister, Kena and husband Michael Ward; mother-in-law, Jean Radford; niece, Kayleigh Jennings; nephew, Matthew Jennings; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Taliaferro; infant daughter, Stephanie; infant twin sons, Scott and Kevin; father-in-law, Keith Radford; and brother-in-law, Dennis Radford.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rod Battles, Bobby King, John Foster, Terry Crissman, Daimon Girod, and Matthew Jennings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the SW Cancer Centers of SW Oklahoma, 2110 Duncan Regional Loop, Duncan, OK 73533 or to the Stephens County Humane Society, PO Box 669, Duncan, OK 73534.
