John "Chris" Zimmerman, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born March 14, 1946 in Oklahoma City to Carl William and Betty Louise (Harris) Zimmerman. He passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, with his family at his side. He was 76.
Graveside services are planned for Monday, January 30, at 11:00 A.M. at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Mark Henslee officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his friends from Halliburton. A reception will be held at 12:30 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church after the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Chris attended public schools in Tulsa and Jesuit Catholic School in Dallas prior to his graduation from Duncan High School in 1964. He received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Physics from the University of Oklahoma. He worked as an engineer in the Downhole Tools Department at Halliburton for 35 years, retiring in 2006. Chris loved his work designing downhole tools for the oilfield. He then worked for 7 years with a consulting firm, Beeken Techquest LTD, in Dallas.
He married the love of his life, Alana "Vicki" Victoria Jones on April 12, 1974 in Duncan. Their family was completed with the births of their children - John "Derek" and Marisa. Chris loved to make knives as a hobby. He created wood carvings from his drawings and also loved using his wood lathe on fun projects.
He enjoyed fishing in the White River in Arkansas. His most favorite things were guns, knives, bows, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, jeeps, and wood carvings. His life revolved around his grandchildren.
Chris is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vicki; children: Derek Zimmerman of Duncan, Marisa and husband Jordan Jackson of Edmond; grandchildren: Ryan and Kaley Arrington of Duncan, E.J. Jackson and Christian Jackson, both of Edmond; great-grandchildren: Thea and Quinn. He is also survived by his brother: Paul and wife Carol Zimmerman of Duncan; sister: Susan Zimmerman; brother-in-law: Ron Jones of Reno, Nevada; and nieces and nephews: Justin Zimmerman, Brad Zimmerman, Tracy Allen, Jason Jones, Jessica Milligan.
