Claude Eugene "Gene" Hawkins, 84, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026. He was born July 3, 1941, in Coyle, Oklahoma, to Claude and Mary (Petty) Hawkins.
After graduating from Chandler High School in 1959, Gene proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He trained as an Automatic Tracking Radar Technician serving his country with honor, for 22 years, including a tour in Vietnam. He earned a Bronze Star among other commendations. He retired as a Master Sergeant, closing a distinguished military career marked by dedication, courage, and service. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Gene continued to work in roles that reflected his strong work ethic and hands-on nature.
Gene was a devoted family man. He cared deeply for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always willing to help anyone who needed him. He was an avid dog lover and always had a project or two in the works. He was known for his playful banter and the affectionate nicknames he gave to those he loved. His generosity, loyalty, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Beth; his brother, Kevin Hawkins; and his nephew, Fred Guthrie.
He is survived by his children: Tammy Hawkins; Thomas Hawkins and wife Tina; Michelle Long; Theresa Macioce and husband Jerry; Susannah Miller Gutierrez; and Michael Miller and wife Dana; his grandchildren: Kymberly Baker (Scott), Sarah Tew (Anthony), Rebecca Hawkins (Justin Price), Austyn Long, Alyssa Long, Abigail Long, Katherine Macioce, Samantha Macioce, Emma Macioce, Matthew Stephens, Savannah Barakat, Nicholas Miller, Cherrelle Miller, and Miranda Threlkeld (Michael); and his great-grandchildren: Caleb, Carson, Aiden, Rydge, Daniel, Tayler, Aubree, Ayden, Anthony, Juniper, Jepson, John, Jase, Bryce, and Emory.
Gene is also survived by his sisters: Mary Charlene Loy and husband Joe, and Debbie Clark and husband Randy; as well as nephews Mark Guthrie and Dylan Clark.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 6, in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with inurnment to follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
