Barbara “Colleen” Best, of Duncan, was born December 18, 1927 in Burkburnett, Texas to Francis Manvers and Irene (Berry) Wylder. She completed her earthly journey and met Jesus on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She was 93.
Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, September 3, at 11:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Colleen received her cosmetology license and worked as a hairdresser for most of her life. She married Charles “Bill” Best on December 7, 1945, in California. They had three children – Charlene, Sharon and Mickey.
She enjoyed travelling with her husband and family in their camper to Colorado and South Texas each year. She loved to read. She enjoyed needlework, sewing and crafts. Playing card games and dominoes with friends and exercise classes were also favorite pastimes. She loved dressing up with a new outfit and plenty of jewelry for social events. Colleen loved sharing her stories and giving her opinion on Facebook and was always texting someone to keep in touch. Throughout her life, wherever she lived, she loved attending church. She was a loving mother and grandmother; she loved her family unconditionally. And she sure loved chocolate.
Colleen is survived by her children: Charlene Best of Guthrie, Sharon Smith of Duncan, Mickey Best and wife, Wryn, of Longview, Texas; grandchildren: Donovan and Jessica Underwood; Dana and Bartley Logsdon, Chrissie Underwood and Kirk Payne, Teresa Pierce, Jenny and Alex Villagrana, Jason and Meridith Smith, Mike and Andreza Sleik, Seth Best; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Cindy Smith for all the care and love she gave our mother. Mom thought of you as a bonus daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Francis Marion Wylder; and great
granddaughter, Nicole Underwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Kids and Youth Ministry (Duncan) or The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital (OKC).
