Cooney Robert Jones Obituary

Cooney Robert "Bob" Jones was born July 13, 1946 in Manchester, Kentucky to Chester Jones and Alberta (Hubbard) Jones Bradley. He passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at his home in Duncan, Oklahoma with his family at his side. He was 78.

Visitation is planned for Thursday, March 27, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, March 28, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church with Rev. John Wheeler, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Glenn Hollin, Marcus Fish, Chester Smith, Phillip Aragon, Lynn Medford, and Ross Hutson.

After graduating from Brownstown, Indiana high school, Bob joined the United States Navy in November, 1965 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served during the Vietnam Campaign from 1967-1968. After he completed his military service in June,1974, he began his 25-year career as a CNC Machinist with Halliburton Energy Services.

On March 24, 1979 he married Gayle Strain in Duncan, OK.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, hunting, fishing and camping. He had been a member of First Christian Church Duncan since 1975. He loved his friends on Facebook. He was also a member of Duncan Moose Lodge 2202 for over 40 years. He was currently a member of the VFW. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Preston Jones, Eddie Jones, Luther Jones; sisters, Ruby Jones, Maggie Johnson, and Ira Shelton.

Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gayle; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Eric Zellner of Seymour, Indiana; grandson: Marcus Fish and wife Jerica of Crothersville, Indiana; and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Bradley and wife Vicky of Berea, Kentucky; sisters: Fern Hollin of Crothersville, Indiana, Mary Howard of Hamilton, Ohio, Ethel and husband Paul Barrett of Berea, Kentucky, Lois and husband Willy Lear of Berea, Kentucky; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He is survived by sisters-in-law: Cheryl Strain and Brenda Jones. Also included in his survivors are his military service brothers: James Sizemore, Randy Moore, Barry Work, Paul Enlow, Lynn Medford, and T.J. Ward. He dearly loved his special service dogs, Sadie Mae and Charlie Girl.
