Curtis (Curt) Elrod Obituary

Curtis (Curt) Dwayne Elrod, Sr., 65, of Winnsboro, Texas, known by so many as Bub, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, in Tyler, Texas after a brief illness. His time on this earth was shortened but he knew the one Who holds him now.

The family will greet visitors on Sunday, November 14, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm at Cyril Funeral Home in Cyril, Oklahoma. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 15, at 10:00am at Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril with Pastor Kip Ackley officiating under the direction of Cyril Funeral Home.

Curt was born in Mendota, California in 1956 to Clifford and Petrovia Elrod. He moved back to Cyril, Oklahoma as a very young child and graduated from Cyril High School in 1974. He moved to Texas in 1990, living in Arlington, Gainesville and Winnsboro, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford. He is survived by his soulmate, his loving wife, Karen; his son, BJ; his daughter, Ashley Colburn and her husband, Tyler; and his "bonus" daughters, Leslie and Madeline Wyatt. He is also survived by his mother, "Pete" Elrod; his brother, Clifton and his wife Lee Ann; his sister, Sandy Snider and her husband, Joe; and many nieces and nephews.

His son, BJ, was his hero and he knew that he was capable of anything. Curt worked with Special Olympics and other special needs groups through many years with BJ. He was a proud volleyball father to Ashley through her many years in competitive volleyball. He was her biggest cheerleader. He was prouder still when she met and married the love of her life, Tyler Colburn.

Curt owned and operated his own construction company and traveled to wherever his jobs would take him. Later he changed careers and worked in the oil fields throughout Oklahoma and Texas.

Never a man of few words, he truly had the gift of gab. He will be missed.

His last five years have been spent enjoying his time making a home and memories with his wife, Karen. God blessed them abundantly in their time together and he will forever be in the beautiful sunsets.
