Daniel Shafer was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on July 8, 1933, to T.R. and Fannie Ellen (McDaniel) Shafer. He passed away at his home in Apache on Tuesday, August 22, at the age of 90.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 26, at 10:00 A.M. at the Fairview Cemetery in Apache with Ronnie Orf officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home.
Daniel graduated from Apache High School in 1951. He married Patricia Ann Cunningham on August 24, 1959. Together they welcomed three children: Tom, James, and John. Daniel worked as a farmer and rancher raising cattle. He enjoyed tending his garden, horse racing, fishing and bird hunting, especially quail. Daniel loved music and he played the fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. He loved his family and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold Shafer, Ned Shafer, Kenneth Shafer; sisters: Ruby Orf, Odessa Marlow, and Betty Jenkins.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia; sons: Tom Shafer of Apache, James Shafer and wife Shelly of Apache, and John Shafer and wife Kim of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren: Jessi McCray and husband Waylon, James Lindsey and wife Carlie, Dillon Lindsey and wife Hannah, Mya Shafer, Cole Shafer, Cale Shafer; great-grandchildren: Nic Lindsey, Brandon Lindsey, Zach Lindsey, Jace Daniel Stone, Adi Stone, Lilly Smith, Jaxon Lindsey, Parker Lindsey, Paislee Lindsey, Logan Lindsey, Tucker Lindsey, Micah McCray, Keegan McCray, and Rian McCray; and great-great-grandchild, Colby McCray.
