Darlene Whitten Obituary

Janice Darlene Whitten was born on February 24, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas. Darlene was the oldest of three daughters of Billye Wanda and Kenneth Puckett. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1966 and studied piano performance and music education at Cameron University from 1966-1970. Darlene was a Certified Yamaha Music Teacher for 12 years. She had a great fondness for photography and operated a photography studio where she developed film in her own dark room. Other hobbies included spending time with her beloved family, sewing, gardening, and taking care of her pets.

Darlene is preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Steve Whitten, her parents, Billye Wanda Kroeker and Kenneth Puckett, and sister Brenda Rivas of Blanchard, OK. Survivors include her sister Teresa Atterberry of Harrah, OK, her daughter Leigh McEntire and husband Marcus of Duncan, OK, her son Matthew Whitten of Duncan, OK, grandchildren Ian McEntire, Ainsley McEntire, and Parker Whitten, and many nieces and nephews.

Darlene was a generous person her entire life and continued providing for others even in her death by giving the greatest gift she could give to others – life. Darlene was a committed organ donor and her organs were successfully donated to three individuals who now are healthier and have prolonged lives due to her generosity. Darlene would want all who read this to consider becoming an organ donor today.

A memorial service celebrating Darlene’s life will be held Friday, April 29 at 2 pm at Whitt Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Rev. Arnold Nelson with special music by Veronica Hodgson. Honorary pallbearers include: Bobby Goodner, Dylan Little, Ryland Rivas, Ryland Rivas, II, John William Whitten, Mannie Whitten, Samuel Whitten, Floyd Wininger, and Jack “JW” Wininger.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Stephens County Humane Society, PO Box 669, Duncan, OK 73534 or Duncan Little Theatre, PO Box 531, Duncan, OK 73534.
