Darrel Wade Cooper, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born October 31, 1931 in Marlow, Oklahoma to James Wilbert and Leona Bea (Flurry) Cooper. He passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, in the Lawton Fort Sill Veterans Center at the age of 92.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 18, at 2:00 P.M. at The Christian Center with Pastor James Miller officiating, with a lunch prior to the start of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Darrel married the love of his life, Myra Scheele, on March 25, 1972 in Wymore, Nebraska. Completing their family were three children - Frank, Dejenne, and Scott.
He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1947-1949 as part of the D Troop 5th Cav 1st Cav. Div. In 1949, Darrel joined the Air Force as part of 304th Signal Operation Battalion. Darrel completed his enlistment from 1950-1959 as part of the 307th Bomb Wing, 97th Air Refueling, and 407th Air Refueling. Darrel also worked for 17 years as a construction superintendent for Weitz Construction building high-rise buildings. He built his own house in Berthoud, CO, and the Rafter C Roping Arena in Marlow, OK. He loved riding horses and team roping. Darrel was an avid OU fan.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 52 years, Myra; children: Frank and wife Carol Cooper of Denver, Colorado, Scott and wife Amy Cooper of Edmond; grandchildren: Zachary and wife Megan Cooper, Aaron and wife Stephanie Cooper, all of Denver; and great grandchildren: Kaylee, Wyatt and Cora Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Dejenne Boyd; and sisters: Betty and Beverly Cooper.
