The loyal heart of a good soldier, husband, son, grandfather, uncle and friend is now in Heaven. SSG David Kemp, R. passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Cyril, Oklahoma on July 14, 1960 to parents, Rudy and Betty Kemp. The family moved to Athens, Texas before he started school. He was involved in Agriculture, football and baseball. David moved back to Cyril in 1977 and graduated in 1979.
David's and Rudy's favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, and working in their shops. David worked for Dolese and, while employed there, had a loaded truck roll over going down a steep hill. In 1981 he joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard and was trained as a medic. Later he went to the Artillery side and finished out his 21-year stint as a Supply SSG. He was deployed for Desert Storm in 1990-1991 and again in September 2005 to November 2006 in Operation Iraqi Freedom. David retired in May 2007. In his later days he enjoyed mowing with his tractor, tinkering in his shop, and fishing. He loved spending time at home with his grandkids and his beloved pets.
David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mona; children: Bill and Jill Wilkerson of Little Axe, Andi Kemp and their partner Robin Scott of Eugene, Oregon, Daniel Kemp of OKC, Eric and Wynona Crow of Marlow, Jessica Kemp of OKC, Kayla Hunter of OKC, Douglas and Saraya Kemp of Fletcher; grandchildren: Marine LCPL Zach Cox, Marine LCPL Jay Cox, Jason, Elliot Grace, Tristan, Rayden, Brealyn, Izaiah, Zoey, River, Sage, Rudy, Emily, Aiden; and new great grandson, Matthew. He is also survived by his mom, Betty McMichael of Athens, Texas, and his sister, Lori Hall of Athens.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 25, between 10 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Cyril Funeral Home. Services will be at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 26, at Cyril's First Baptist Church with Paul Metcalf and Paul Burden officiating. The funeral service will be live streamed on YouTube by searching for David Kemp's service. Interment will be at 11:00 A.M. at Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Cyril Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers is the United States Army Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are the grandsons.
