Delbert Bybee Obituary

Delbert Milton Bybee was born on August 18, 1940 in Tolleson, Arizona to John Henry and Fannie Marie (Morrison) Bybee. Delbert passed away to his Heavenly Home on October 12, 2021, in Oklahoma City at the age of 81.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, October 16, at 10:00 A.M. at the Apache First Baptist Church with Billy Harmon officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Crews Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.

Delbert graduated with the Class of 1958 from Apache High School. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard. On November 21, 1967 he married the love of his life, Carol Elizabeth Coffman, and together they raised three children, Damon, Michelle, and Lisa. He was an auto mechanic by trade, working for Malone Ford in Apache and owning his own auto repair business, Delbert’s Auto Service. Delbert went on to work as a civilian at Ft. Sill Army base, repairing military vehicles, until his retirement.

Delbert had a love for fast cars. From the time he could drive, he was known for his nice cars with fast engines and was always up for a drag race. Many of his young adult years were spent at the dirt tracks in Oklahoma and Texas where he became well known as “the one to beat”. He won many races and made many friends that became his race family. After he won the championship in 1975, he decided to retire to buy a boat and “play in the water” as he said it. Delbert was inducted in to the Texhoma Racers Hall of Fame in 2016. His new hobby of camping and boating lead to many years of fun and great memories at the lake with family and friends. Delbert loved everyone he met but above all he loved his family. He always made you feel welcome and loved cooking for everyone. His ornery grin, fun personality and over all love for life will be what we miss the most.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; daughter, Lisa and husband Kyle Stewart of Weatherford; son, Damon and wife Sheila Bybee of Apache; Grandchildren: McKinley Outhier, Alexa Harvey, Kylee Stewart, Kennedy Stewart, Jason and wife Bobbi Sue Vail, Dainell and husband Alex Wilson, Great Grandchildren: Daylee Vail, Madi Vail, Vance Vail, Allie Wilson, and Ella Wilson and sister, Shirley Roberts of Apache.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Bybee; grandson, Gunnar Jones; brother, Don Bybee; and sister, Mary Jo Smith.
