Della Wilma Sue Sears Obituary

Della "Wilma" Sue Sears, born July 7, 1943, in Esserville, Virginia, to William Robert and Alpha Bertha Mae (Bateman) Connell, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 82.

Wilma devoted her life to caring for others. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Wilkins Nursing Home and continued her calling as a private health care aide for many years. Her gentle hands and compassionate heart brought comfort to countless individuals, and her dedication to service was a reflection of her deep faith and love for people.

She was devoted to God and her family, living each day with strength and a steadfast spirit. Her faith guided her steps, and her home was a place of warmth, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Sears; daughter, Sandra Short; grandson, James; sister, Nona Schoolcraft; and brother, Willie Carroll Connell.

She is survived by her children: Marsha Short and husband Chris, Jimmy Short and wife Nina, Tara Harper and husband Micah; grandchildren: Daniel, Alainea, Sueanna, Stevie, Nicholas, Chian, Canyon, Juniper, Logan, Emma; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty.

There are no services planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
