Delores Ann Pree, known to most people as Ann Jones, was born October 23, 1948, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Herman (Sonny Boy) Jones and Rosie (Barnes) Jones. She passed away on September 6, 2020, in Lancaster, California.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, September 21, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyd officiating. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required. Honorary pallbearers will be Lisa Harper, Yvette Pree, Dynisha Pree, Ashley Gibbs, Brittany Daniels, and Sandy McConnell. Interment will follow in the Henderson-Harris Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
She grew up in Duncan, attended Douglass and Duncan High School, then moved to Lewisville, Arkansas and attended Foster High School. She later moved to Richmond, California, attended Oakland College, and then Contra Costa College.
At a young age she joined Antioch Baptist Church where the Rev. F.W. Whitaker was the pastor. When she moved to California, she joined Green Pastures where Elder Frank Combs was the pastor.
She worked in the medical field until having to retire early because of medical problems. She was a Foster Grandparent at Mark Twain Elementary School. She was a volunteer for Women’s Haven, also did volunteer work for Jessie Jackson, Bill Clinton, and President Obama. Her hobbies were her puppies, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, the S.F. 49ers (win or lose), traveling, and spending time with her grandkids.
She met and married Sylvester Pree, who precedes her in death. Also preceding were her parents, grandparents, her daughter Kimberly Gibbs, and her only son David Harper, her brothers, Carnell Gaines and James Wright.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life and memories: daughters, Lisa Harper of Duncan, Yvette Pree of Lancaster California; daughter-in-law, Sandy McConnell of Cedar Park, Texas; 9 grandchildren, Dynisha, Ashley, Kalajah, Semaj, Dequan all from California, Brittany and Torin (TJ) from Oklahoma, Kimisia from Georgia, Christopher from Texas; 6 great grands; 7 nieces; 9 nephews; 1 very special cousin more like a brother, Lorenzo (Shirley) King of Duncan; many other cousins and friends.
