Dena Mae Biffle, age 94, passed away June 22, 2021 after a long illness. Dena was born in Waurika, Oklahoma on March 12, 1947 to Robert and Mary Elkins. She attended school in Waurika and graduated in 1945 as Valedictorian of her class. She went on to Oklahoma University to major in music.
Dena married the loved of her life, Harold Turner Biffle, on August 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1985. Dena was first and foremost a wife and mother of her four children, Francie Prater, Turner Biffle, Rinda Griffin and Dona Lowery.
Dena excelled at any task. As a child she played the piano and accordion and she traveled statewide dancing for the troops during the war. Dena was an expert seamstress and gardener. She worked on many school and church projects. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Waurika, Velma and Duncan. She taught Sunday School for thirty years and served as Sunday school Superintendent. As a young mother in Velma, Dena was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and served as a Red Cross and Cancer Drive Volunteer.
Dena loved watching her children play in their various school events. She even made the entire squads cheerleading uniforms for several years. Dena joined her husband, Harold, in his many jobs. It might be farm and ranch work or helping with Mr. Biffle's Vocational Agriculture students with their life problems and projects.
Later Harold and Dena retired in Duncan where she continued her volunteer work at Duncan Regional Hospital logging 7,019 hours installing LifeLine Units for the elderly. She was also a volunteer tax preparer for many years. She also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Duncan.
Dena is survived by three children: Son, Turner and daughter-in-law JoAnn Biffle of Velma, Daughters, Francie and son-in-law Mike Prater of Duncan, and Dona and son-in-law Roger Lowery of Loco, Son-in-law Johnny Griffin of Waurika. Grandchildren: Staci Prater Strickland of Duncan, Keli Prater Pierce of Velma, Eme Prater Sanders of Duncan, Robert Turner Biffle of Houston, Texas, Jorinda Griffin of Waurika, Gil Griffin of Waurika, Olivia Lowery of Dallas, Texas, and Preston Lowery of Loco. Dena's great grandchildren are Jaci and Slade Strickland, Kylee and Kole Pierce, and Presley and Parker Sanders. Dena was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Elkins; husband, Harold Biffle; and daughter, Rinda Griffin.
Also, many thanks to Phyllis Hunter, Dena's neighbor, friend and caregiver for many years and the wonderful caring nurses at Elk Crossing for loving our mother in her final days.
Dena requested no funeral service. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
