Donald Edward Shannon was born May 31, 1936 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Willie York and Otherene (Wyatt) Shannon. He completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home in Duncan.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 1, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, April 2, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Maxfield, Senior Adult Pastor-Marlow First Baptist, officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Willie Thompson, Cody Thompson, Todd Thompson, Chad Kimbro, Buddy Shannon and Charlie Hill. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Following his graduation from Duncan High School, Don married Margaret Cobb on June 21, 1955. Their family was completed with the births of their children - Dianna, Vickie, Junior, and Darrell. After celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, Margaret preceded him in death on May 23, 2020.
He worked at Halliburton as the supervisor of Construction Maintenance for 20 years. He retired in 1986 and he then purchased Mr. A Auto Color where he and Margaret enjoyed working side by side and with their son, Junior, until they retired to enjoy life away from the business world.
Don is survived by his children: Dianna Thompson of Duncan, Vickie Stewart of Marlow, Junior Shannon of Duncan; grandchildren: Willie and Amanda Thompson, Cody and Amber Thompson, Todd Thompson, Traci Jameson, Chrissy and Steve Alcorn, Chad and Christie Kimbro, Buddy Shannon, Charlie Hill, Cris Cox, Amanda Shepard, Brice Shepard; great grandchildren: Bella, Arawyn, Nash and Quinn Thompson, Hannah and Reed Thompson, KiArra Williams, Julius McCoy, Jamari McCoy, Bryson and Liberty Shannon, Eathen Cox, Kensley Kimbro, Kaden Kimbro, Holland Kimbro, Trace Kimbro, and Kealey Alcorn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, Darrell Shannon; brothers: David, Johnny and Leon Shannon; sister, Ruby Flynt; and sons-in-law, Junior Thompson and John Stewart.
