Dorothy’s family moved to Waurika, Oklahoma in 1941. She was a 1950 graduate of Waurika High School. Following in her parents’ footsteps, she and her first husband, Bob Crutcher, owned and operated Hicks Department Stores in various locations, including Comanche, Oklahoma. In 1964, after her father’s unexpected death, they moved the family to Chickasha to operate the business there. She made a lifetime career in retail and retired at an early age after closing her own stores, Crutcher’s Department Store and Carnegie Hat & Boot in Carnegie, Oklahoma. After retirement, she made her home at Fort Cobb Lake where she enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning. She enjoyed drinking coffee, eating sweets, teaching her grandchildren to play Solitaire and sharing her muffins with her great-grandchildren.
In 2000, after the death of her second husband, Herbert McClane, she came to live in Duncan to be close to her children. Being diagnosed with dementia in 2015, she moved in the home of her daughter and son-in-law. The disease may have taken her memory, but it never took her good-natured, loving spirit. She loved her family and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, even though she couldn’t remember their names. She always knew they belonged to her.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and set the example of a faithful Christian to her family. In Duncan, she was a member of Chisholm Trail Church of Christ where she faithfully attended until her health prevented her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert McClane; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Pope; and twin brother, Don Hicks.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy and husband Geary Tibbetts of Duncan; son, Mark Crutcher and wife Tana of Duncan; grandchildren: Bryan Pope and wife Elizabeth of Laverne, Dustin Pope and fiancé Staci Hoock of Woodward, Kristen Eden and husband Brian of Marlow, Leah Ashworth and husband Wes of Newalla, Kacy Tibbetts and wife Amanda of Duncan, Joel Ryan and wife Sonya of Ft. Collins, CO; great grandchildren: Ethan and Madison Eden: Amiya Tibbetts; Emilia, Wyatt, Brock and Nathan Ashworth; Jerrett, Jocelyn, and Benjamin Pope; Mia and Julian Ryan; brother, James Hicks; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank all the caregivers over the past five years and Chisholm Trail Hospice for their care.
