Elizabeth Maxine 'Tottie' Carter Hartsell was born on November 13, 1931 in Hutchinson, KS to Thaddius Frederick and Ida Fern Brantley. She passed away in Duncan on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the age of 91.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11AM at New Hope Baptist Church West. Rev. Randy Southerland will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Tottie attended high school in Texoma, OK where she met Kenneth Carter. They were married in Clayton, NM on June 30, 1950. They had three children - Debbie, Danny, and Michael. Tottie graduated from Wayland Baptist College with a teaching degree and went on to teach at various public schools in Texas and Oklahoma. She was an accomplished piano and organ player for many of the churches that Ken pastored until his death in 2000. Tottie married Charles Hartsell in 2004 in Scottsboro, Alabama. They lived in Duncan and attended New Hope Baptist Church West until his death in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers: Vonnie, Dee and Bill Brantley; and one sister, Vivian Reeder. Tottie is survived by her daughter, Debbie Dixon and husband Bill of Duncan; son, Danny Carter and wife Joleen of Hickory Creek, TX; son, Michael Carter of Vail, CO; stepdaughter Charla Strain and husband Cliff of Idabel, OK; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Georgia, and Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
